“The music on this album was inspired by mathematics and philosophy. To many people, mathematics and music are worlds apart: whereas music speaks to the emotion, mathematics is seen as somehow cold and ‘emotionless’. But I found that many of its concepts have a profound poetic quality to them, which makes for excellent songwriting material.
In the case of ‘Curiosity’, I used these ideas not only as metaphors: they manifest themselves in the music. Symmetry, balance and the emergence of complexity from simple basics are at the heart of the songs on this album. The goal was to write songs that are complex but not complicated; systematic and poetic at the same time.” – Christiaan Bruin
